War Chapters in the Covenant of Christ : Part 5 A - Amalickiah-Type for the Latter-day Anti-Christ

The last paper explored Captain Moroni and how his life foreshadows events of a latter-day David. To continue considering the Lord’s symmetry in prophetic events, we next examine Amalickiah as a type for a latter-day anti-Christ. Opposing Hezekiah and Cyrus in the Book of Isaiah, we find the kings of Assyria and Babylon. Amalickiah and these kings repeat a pattern demonstrated in the Covenant of Christ.

Amalickiah is a Nephite of large stature and unbridled aspirations. His first attempt at claiming power over the Nephite population was thwarted by Captain Moroni. Amalickiah’s strategy began with an appeal to lower judges seeking power among the Nephites. Collectively they supported Amalickiah’s attempt to restore the Nephite rebel to the throne held last by Mosiah.

Righteous monarchs Mosiah, Benjamin, and Mosiah devoted their lives to serving the people without taxes. Their service to their subjects was to them service to God.[1] In contrast to the righteous Nephite kings, Amalickiah’s desires were selfish and sought to exert power over the Nephites and destroy the congregation of believers. They were an obstacle to achieving his ego maniacal desires.

“All those who refused to listen to Helaman and his brothers’ instruction joined together against their fellow Nephites. Now they were so angry with Helaman and his brothers that they were determined to kill them. The leader of those who were very angry with their fellow Nephites was a large, strong man named Amalickiah. Amalickiah wanted to be a king; and those people who were angry also wanted him to be their king. Most of them were the lower judges of the land who were looking for more power. They had been persuaded by Amalickiah’s promises that if they would support him and establish him to be their king, then he would make them rulers over the people. In this way, Amalickiah persuaded them to begin fighting, despite Helaman and his brothers’ preaching, and despite their great care over the congregation, since they were high priests over the congregation. There were many in the congregation who believed the promises of Amalickiah; therefore they even split off from the congregation. And so the affairs of the Nephites were very precarious and dangerous, despite the great victory they had gained over the Lamanites, and the great feelings of joy they had experienced because the Lord had saved them. So we see how quickly mankind forgets the Lord who is God, how quick they are to commit iniquity and to be led astray by the Evil One. And we also see the great evil that one very wicked man can cause among mankind. We see that Amalickiah, because he was a scheming, corrupt, and articulate man, led astray the hearts of many people to act wickedly, and to attempt to destroy God’s congregation and also the foundation of liberty God had provided to them, or God’s blessing sent upon the land because of the righteous” (CofC, Alma 21:6, emphasis added).

The characteristics listed in the rise of Amalickiah reflect attributes one should look for in the latter-day anti-Christ. There are many ways to describe these attributes but the common denominator among them all is a desire to rob mankind of their agency.

Following inspiration from Satan, Amalickiah sought to ascend above his fellow Nephites and subject them to Satan’s will. Like Satan, he rebelled against God’s commandments and His servants who taught them and called mankind to repentance.

While speculation on the identity of the latter-day anti-Christ turns to leaders on foreign shores, it should not be overlooked the fact Amalickiah’s  rebellion began among his own people, the Nephites. Only when Amalickiah failed to subject the Nephites did he lead a small contingent to the Nephites enemies. Failed insurrection among the Nephites lead to the treasonous act of stirring the Lamanites to attacking the Nephites.

This was not an easy task because the Lamanites had suffered fierce and bitter defeat against the Nephites. Anxiety from those defeats stirred great fear among them. By deceitful stratagem Amalickiah engaged in betrayal and murder to gain control of the Lamanite throne and its army. He did so by stirring the Lamanites to anger against the Nephites.

Denver Snuffer drew attention to the same tactic present in modern political campaigns and popular media outlets. In his discussion of the Covenant of Christ Denver wrote:

“Listen to the description of the “other party” that airs nightly on Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, Daily Wire, Newsmax, Washington Post, New York Times, and even the Wall Street Journal. Go to any other news source and compare messages. The messaging is to fear and distrust the rival political party and those who will vote contrary to the viewpoint being advocated.

The ultimate objective of the messaging is exposed in Covenant of Christ. When the leader of one faction wanted to violently overthrow his opponent, it required him to dehumanize his target, and stir up anger to motivate violence: “As soon as Amalickiah obtained the kingdom he began to manipulate the Lamanites against the Nephites. Indeed, he appointed men to speak to the Lamanites from their towers accusing the Nephites. In this way, he influenced them against the Nephites, so that in the latter end of the 19th year of the judges’ rule, having carried out his scheme to that point, having been made king over the Lamanites, he also made it his aim to rule over the entire land, and all the people who lived there, the Nephites as well as the Lamanites. So he had advanced his plan, since he had hardened the Lamanites’ hearts and blinded their minds and stirred them up to anger, so much so that he collected a large army willing to attack the Nephites.” Alma 21:31. It was the tools he used that are being used again today to manipulate the public and motivate violence: “Amalickiah had, in this way, been obtaining power by fraud and deceit” (Covenant of Christ Part 2, emphasis added).

Amalickiah’s tactics were implemented over many generations by Satan, who was the source of his inspiration. This strategy was in place in Eden, when Cain covenanted with Satan in a plot to reclaim the birthright.[2]

“Satan wanted to be chosen as the Savior so that he could implement his plan [rob mankind of their agency] to save all mankind. Both he and his plan were rejected. If he had been given the role of Savior [first position of power] he could have implemented his plan making it a condition for saving mankind. When he was not chosen, Satan wanted to become Adam, the first man [second position of power], and stand as the patriarch over the entire family of man. This would have given him leverage to exert dominion over the creation and accomplish the same result. When he was rejected again, he rebelled and was cast out. As an exile from heaven, he targeted Adam and Eve to lead them to transgress God’s commands [final attempt to exert his will]. When Cain became the probable heir of Adam, to receive the Holy Order and father the line through which the promised Messiah would come, Satan’s attention turned to corrupting Cain [and everyone in a position to exert power over others, “hence, many are called, but few are chosen”][3]. A younger brother, Abel, also followed God. There had been universal rebellion (or apostasy) against God by the children of Adam and Eve until Cain. But then both Cain and Abel showed interest in following God. It is probable that Cain’s example influenced Abel for the good. Since the Order would follow the oldest, righteous son, Cain would be the heir. Abel’s righteousness could not displace Cain, had Cain remained faithful. Cain followed Satan and obeyed Satan’s command to offer a sacrifice. Abel followed God and obeyed God’s command to offer a sacrifice. The contrast between Cain and Abel provoked God to accept Abel’s sacrifice and reject Cain’s. Cain was offended at God’s rejection, but God offered to accept Cain if he would repent and return. This was a conflict that involved who would inherit the Holy Order. Satan wanted to destroy the plan of God. If he could gain control over the right of dominion, and make the coming Messiah subject to a patriarch who would support Satan’s ambition [the primary ambition of all who succumb to Satan], he hoped to still prevail in the conflict over this creation. Cain could have repented and retained his right to inherit from Adam. God offered him that. Adam and Eve also urged Cain to repent. Abel pled with Cain to repent [familial effort to reclaim Cain, at the cost of Abel losing the birthright]. Cain rejected them all, took a wife and left the company of his parents and brother Abel. There is no record of how many years passed, but the ambition to control and corrupt this creation was never out of the heart of Satan. Desperate ambitions lead to desperate acts, and the solution Satan inspired was for Cain to murder his brother. This was an attempt to get control over the entire creation by overthrowing the government of God and confiscate the birthright and associated Holy Order that accompanied it. The “flocks of my brother” Cain [like Satan] wanted to control as his “gain” was the lineage through whom the Messiah would descend.

This is an important part of the plot of the adversary because if he [Satan] can control any position under Adam involving the Holy Order, this creation can be compromised. God has a house of order. When the world was created it belonged to God. By His word He gave dominion over His creation to Adam and Eve. It became theirs and Adam holds the right to preside over it, as Joseph Smith explained. That right must be returned to Jesus Christ before His return. If anyone who has held a position in the Holy Order refuses to return dominion back to Christ, it can create a conflict that continues the same war that began in heaven. If Cain were to hold dominion over this creation, he could impose conditions Satan put into his heart before returning the right of dominion back to the Savior. By extension, if any disciple of Satan were ever to obtain the Holy Order with the right of dominion the conditions Satan demanded in the preexistence, which were designed to destroy the agency of man, could become the condition for redeeming this creation. Cain’s apostasy was a continuation of the war in heaven and a threat to the salvation of everyone who would live thereafter. Threatening salvation of mankind has been the aim of our adversary since the beginning. There is still a great conspiracy to destroy the souls of men and to capture this creation. The Holy Order is guarded by carefully qualifying those who receive it. It is under God’s control and supervised by Adam and Eve.” (The Holy Order, Denver Snuffer Jr., pp.9-10, emphasis added).

From the previous reference we see there is “nothing new under the sun” when it comes to rebellion against God and selfish desires to subject mankind and disrupt equality. The war for man’s agency began prior to Earth’s creation and continues on Earth today.[4] Satan and his proxy’s carry out his war against the agency of man using the same tools the covenant of Christ says Amalickiah used. Fraud and deceit or lies.

Jesus spoke with a group of believers teaching them that if they continued in His word they would know the truth and be liberated. A number of Jewish leaders overheard the Savior’s words and disputed whether they had ever been in bondage. After asserting their elevated parentage and accusing Christ of being the offspring of an extra-marital affair, Jesus revealed the identity of their true father.

“ . . . Why do you fail to comprehend my words? Your refusal to hearken and submit to my teachings makes you deaf indeed. Your father is the accuser, and you share the envy and rebellion of your father. He was a rebellious destroyer from the beginning, and fought against the truth, because he prefers lies. When he spreads a lie, he advances his agenda. He is the source of deceit in this fallen world . . .” (RE T&C 171, Testimony of Saint John 6:19, emphasis added).

Satan is the father of lies. Falsehoods are tools of his trade and those who refuse to accept truth taught by the Savior consciously choose to be deceived by the Devil and his deceitful promises. Satan uses lies to appeal to the evil nature of the natural man.[5] Self-indulgence and self-gratification accompanied with the deception and the promise they avoid suffering negative consequences. They choose to be deceived[6] when Satan tells them evil can be hidden from their Father in Heaven. That is an impossibility. God cannot be deceived, neither can a person exercise faith in falsehood. This became apparent when those who sought for Amalickiah’s rise to the throne were pressed to defend their professed belief.

“When Amalickiah realized Moroni’s people were greater than the Amalickiahites, and when he saw his people doubted the justice of the cause they had undertaken — and fearing he wouldn’t achieve his objective — he took those of his people who were willing and made his way to the land of Nephi” (CofC, Alma 12:11, emphasis added).

Satan appeals to the lustful desires of the natural man coupled with the lie their acts can be hidden.  Their belief that the consequences for sin can be avoided is self-deception. Pride, desire for personal gratification and the lie personal responsibility and accountability can be nullified are individual choices leading to self-deception. It is part of the Devil’s plan to steal light and truth from those choosing to be deceived.

The Lord revealed to Joseph Smith the Devil’s strategy for deceiving mankind.

“The glory of God is intelligence, or in other words, light and truth. Light and truth forsake that evil one. Every spirit of man was innocent in the beginning, and God having redeemed man from the Fall, man became again, in their infant state, innocent before God. And that wicked one [Satan] comes and takes away light and truth, through disobedience, from the children of men, and because of the tradition of their fathers. But I have commanded you to bring up your children in light and truth” (RE T&C 93:11, emphasis added).

Satan can only remove light and truth from mankind by encouraging their  rebellion against God’s commandments and their devotion to false traditions from their forefathers.

In our day God’s symmetry leads to an escalation in the battle between truth and lies. Discerning between the two becomes more complex as people turn from God and His revelations and embrace a flood of lies flowing from the Devil’s mouth.

“And after these things, I heard another voice, saying, Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, yea, and they who dwell upon the islands of the sea, for the Devil has come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time; for when the dragon [Satan] saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman [Mary, family of God] who brought forth the male child [Jesus]. Therefore, to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle [mobility], that she might flee into the wilderness [refuge], into her place where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent [Satan]. And the serpent casts out of his mouth water as a flood [of lies] after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. And the earth helps the woman, and the earth opens her mouth and swallows up the flood which the dragon casts out of his mouth. Therefore, the dragon was angry with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed [those not overtaken by the flood of lies], who keep the commandments of God and have also the testimony of Jesus Christ” (RE Revelation 4:5, emphasis added).

When the Accuser realizes his time is short, he escalates his efforts by pouring lies from his mouth like water. The flood of lies has increased in the last four years to a level defying common sense and logic.[7]

“ . . . I plan to speak about some of this in the upcoming March Conference. Not directly, but generally to try to help people see there is a great fog of lies surrounding us continually. There is a vision that Enoch had, Moses restored, and is now part of the Old Covenants in Genesis. In the LDS scriptures it is in the Pearl of Great Price, Book of Moses. In that vision Satan had the whole world bound in a great chain, and he looked up at heaven and laughed. It is in OC Gen. 4:15: “And he beheld Satan, and he had a great chain in his hand, and he veiled the whole face of the earth with darkness; and he looked up and laughed, and his angels rejoiced.”

That great chain is not physical, but mental. The chain used by our common enemy is made of lies and deceit.

People are not depressed irrationally. They are responding in a normal way to an abnormal perception made of lies. They despair because they think there is reason to be despairing. But that is because they accept what the “world” is telling them about our present condition. Part of waking up is realizing that most of what is said, taught, claimed and broadcast in society is filled with lies about mankind’s condition, the state of society, and lies designed to inspire envy, jealousy and discouragement.

I have tried to awaken people to the reality that God lives and cares very much for those who respond to His voice. He intends to protect and care for His sheep. His commandments are calculated to free us from the imprisonment of worldliness and sin. He is trying to free us [from Satan’s chains of deceit], not to impose upon us. I think God intends for you and those now living to participate in the building of a new society, a New Jerusalem, a place of peace apart from the world. But for now we await further command from Him, while still living in a society ever more in the chains of the enemy” (Email: Depression blogpost, Denver Snuffer Jr., February 3, 2020, emphasis added).

The chains that bind us are psychological as a consequence of our ignorance of God and His mysteries. Breaking free from those chains involves gaining sufficient knowledge and faith in God to obey His commandments which adds light and truth. Obedience brings light and truth, exposing darkness and chasing it away. As we add knowledge light increases and we draw nearer to God, acquiring His attributes until we draw back the veil and know Him. Knowing Him is to be introduced to our sanctified selves.

“Verily I say unto you, he that is ordained of me and sent forth to preach the word of truth by the Comforter, in the spirit of truth, does he preach it by the spirit of truth or some other way? And if by some other way, it is not of God. And again, he that receives the word of truth, does he receive it by the spirit of truth or some other way? If it be some other way, it is not of God. Therefore, why is it that you cannot understand and know that he that receives the word by the spirit of truth, receives it as it is preached by the spirit of truth? Wherefore, he that preaches and he that receives, understand one another, and both are edified and rejoice together. And that which does not edify is not of God, and is darkness. That which is of God is light, and he that receives light and continues in God receives more light, and that light grows brighter and brighter until the perfect day” (RE T&C 36:4, emphasis added).

To counter lies and preserve God’s symmetry, a flood of truth is poured upon earth to immerse it and chase darkness away. Consequently mankind’s odds of finding God and returning to His presence increase. But mankind must seek after light and truth and avoid complacency. In the process of God revealing greater light, Satan’s lies are exposed with the misdeeds of those who follow him.

“And Enoch wept and cried unto the Lord again, saying, When shall the earth rest? And Enoch beheld the Son of Man ascend up unto the Father, and he called unto the Lord, saying, Will you not come again upon the earth? For inasmuch as you are God, and I know you, and you have sworn unto me and commanded me that I should ask in the name of your Only Begotten, you have made me, and given unto me a right to your throne, and not of myself, but through your own grace. Wherefore, I ask you if you will not come again on the earth. And the Lord said unto Enoch, As I live, even so will I come in the last days, in the days of wickedness and vengeance, to fulfill the oath which I have made unto you concerning the children of Noah. And the day shall come that the earth shall rest. But before that day, the heavens shall be darkened, and a veil of darkness shall cover the earth; and the heavens shall shake, and also the earth. And great tribulations shall be among the children of men, but my people will I preserve. And righteousness will I send down out of Heaven. Truth will I send forth out of the earth to bear testimony of my Only Begotten, his resurrection from the dead, yea, and also the resurrection of all men. And righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out my own elect from the four quarters of the earth unto a place which I shall prepare, a holy city, that my people may gird up their loins and be looking forth for the time of my coming. For there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem. And the Lord said unto Enoch, Then shall you and all your city meet them there, and we [Christ and the people of Enoch] will receive them into our bosom. And they shall see us, and we will fall upon their necks, and they shall fall upon our necks, and we will kiss each other [it is a joyous reunion because they have met prior to this time when the ensign is raised by the “Root of Jesse” forming a familial connection with the Patriarchal Fathers]; and there shall be my [Christ’s] abode. And it shall be Zion which shall come forth out of all the creations which I have made, and for the space of a thousand years shall the earth rest” (RE Genesis 4:22, emphasis added).

Prior to this happy ending dark times prevail. Adversity is part of the cleansing and ascension process according to Joseph Smith.

“A fanciful and flowery and heated imagination beware of; because the things of God are of deep import; and time, and experience, and careful and ponderous and solemn thoughts can only find them out [mysteries of God]. Thy mind, O man! if thou wilt lead a soul unto salvation, must stretch as high as the utmost heavens, and search into and contemplate the darkest abyss, and the broad expanse of eternity—thou must commune with God” (Smith Jr., Joseph. Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith (pp. 153-154, emphasis added). Deseret Book Company. Kindle Edition.

The symmetry of God maintains equilibrium between truth and error, and balance between the kingdoms of the Devil and God on Earth. When it comes to good and evil, God maintains balance by countering Satan’s moves to destroy the creation and impose revenge against God’s faithful. Fortunately, God’s wisdom is always greater than the cunning of the Accuser.[8]

This concludes part A and provides a foundation for understanding God’s work in using His symmetrical approach to thwarting Satan and his deception of Amalickiah as the wicked destroy one another. Remember, there are two ways to destroy wickedness. God’s preferred method is repentance.

[1] “He began speaking from the tower, but because so many had gathered, they couldn’t all hear him. Therefore he had his words written down and sent out to those beyond his voice so all could receive his words. This is what he said and had written: My people, all who have gathered and can hear the words I speak to you today, I haven’t called you here to trifle with what I will say. Rather, I want you to listen carefully and not just with your ears, but also with your hearts. By doing so, you’ll be able to comprehend God’s mysteries, and I can help you see His grace. I haven’t commanded you to come up here to threaten you, or to have you think that I’m more than a mortal man. I’m like you, dealing with all kinds of infirmities in body and mind. Nevertheless, I’ve been chosen by this people, consecrated by my father, and allowed by the Lord to be a ruler and king over this people. I’ve been watched over and helped by His unmatched power to serve you with all the power, mind, and strength the Lord has granted to me. I tell you that I’ve been permitted, up to now, to spend my days in your service. I haven’t wanted gold, silver, or anything of value from you. I haven’t allowed you to be imprisoned in dungeons or to enslave each other or to murder, plunder, steal, or commit adultery. I haven’t allowed you to commit any kind of wickedness. I’ve taught you to keep the Lord’s commandments in everything He’s commanded you. I’ve even worked with my own hands to serve you so you wouldn’t be burdened with taxes, and so nothing difficult or distressing to bear would be imposed upon you — and today you know everything I’ve said to be true. But, my people, I haven’t done these things to boast, nor do I tell you this to complain about you. I tell you this so you know I can answer before God today with a clear conscience. Now I told you I had spent my days in your service, but I don’t say that to brag, for I’ve only been in the service of God” (CofC, Mosiah 1:7, emphasis added).

[2] “And it came to pass that Cain took one of his brother’s daughters to wife, and they loved Satan more than God. And Satan says unto Cain, Swear unto me by your throat, and if you tell it, you shall die. And swear your brethren by their heads and by the living God that they tell it not, for if they tell it, they shall surely die — and this that your [both Heavenly and Earthly] father may not know it. And this day I will deliver your brother Abel into your hands. And Satan swore unto Cain that he would do according to his commands. And all these things were done in secret. And Cain says, Truly I am Mahon, the master of this great secret — that I may murder and get gain; wherefore, Cain was called Master Mahon. And he gloried in his wickedness. And Cain went into the field and Cain talked with Abel his brother. And it came to pass that while they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel his brother and slew him. And Cain gloried in that which he had done, saying, I am free; surely the flocks of my brother fall into my hands” (RE Genesis 3:9, emphasis added).

[3] “Behold, there are many called, but few are chosen, and why are they not chosen? Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men, that they do not learn this one lesson — that the rights of the Priesthood [Holy Order] are inseparably connected with the Powers of Heaven [Patriarchal Fathers in Heaven] and that the Powers of Heaven cannot be controlled nor handled, only upon the principles of righteousness. That they may be conferred upon us, it is true, but when we undertake to cover our sins or to gratify our pride, our vain ambition, or to exercise control, or dominion, or compulsion, upon the souls of the children of men in any degree of unrighteousness, behold, the Heavens withdraw themselves, the spirit of the Lord is grieved, and when it is withdrawn, Amen to the priesthood or the authority of that man. Behold, ere he is aware, he is left unto himself, to kick against the pricks, to persecute the saints, and to fight against God. We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion. Hence many are called, but few are chosen” (RE T&C 139:5, emphasis added).

[4] “And there was war in Heaven: Michael [Adam] and his angels fought against the dragon [Satan], and the dragon and his angels fought against Michael. And the dragon prevailed not against Michael, neither the child, nor the womanwho was the church [congregation, family] of God — who had been delivered of her pains and brought forth the kingdom of our God and his Christ; neither was there place found in Heaven for the great dragon who was cast out, that old serpent called the Devil, and also called Satan, who deceives the whole world, he who was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him” (RE Revelation 4:3, emphasis added).

[5] “ . . . Men and women, in their natural state, are out of harmony with God and have been since the Fall of Adam. This disharmony will continue from eternity to eternity, unless they yield to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, abandon their fallen nature, and become holy through the atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ. They should strive to become like a child, humble, meek, patient, and full of love, willing to accept everything that the Lord deems appropriate for them, as a child obeys their parents” (CofC, Mosiah 1:16, emphasis added).

[6] “When the chief judge saw this, he wrote a note to Korihor asking: Are you convinced of God’s power? How did you expect a sign to be given? Did you think God would target someone else to show you a sign? Now He has shown you a sign. Do you still disbelieve?

Then Korihor wrote: I know that I’m mute, since I can’t speak. And I know nothing except for God’s power could bring this upon me. I always knew there was a God. But the accuser deceived me, appearing to me in the form of an angel and saying to me: Go and reclaim this people, because they’ve all gone astray after an unknown God. He told me: There is no God. And he taught me what to say, and I’ve taught his words. I taught them because they were pleasing to the worldly mind. And I taught them until I had considerable success, then I honestly believed they were true. And for this reason I fought the truth, to the point I’ve now brought upon myself this great curse. When he had said this, he begged Alma to pray to God so the curse would be removed from him. But Alma said to him: If this curse were to be taken from you, you would return to leading the hearts of this people astray. Therefore what happens to you is up to the Lord” (CofC, Alma 16:8, emphasis added).

[7] “Alma 12:11: “And they that will harden their hearts, to them is given the lesser portion of the word until they know nothing concerning his mysteries; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and led by his will down to destruction. Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell.” The definition of being “taken captive” by the devil is to know nothing concerning God’s mysteries. When a person knows nothing concerning God’s mysteries, they are then led by the devil’s will down to destruction. When taken captive by ignorance they are bound “by the chains of hell.” The result of ignorance of God’s mysteries is “destruction” and “captivity.” The ignorant will remain devoted to falsehoods, blind leaders and guides who do not understand the truth and cannot lead us to it. And all are left without repentance, because repentance requires knowledge” (Snuffer, Denver. Preserving the Restoration, footnote 777 [This footnote only appears in the digital copy]. Mill Creek Press. Kindle Edition.

[8] “I will not suffer that they shall destroy my work, yea I will show unto them that my wisdom is greater than the cunning of the Devil . . .” (RE T&C 1, Joseph Smith History, part 10:15, emphasis added).
